Officially, Hector Cuper coaches the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo Football Association announced the appointment of Argentine Hector Cuper, former coach of the national team, as the new coach of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as the 65-year-old Argentine coach will take over the post, after more than a year and a half without a team.

This will be the fourth time that Cooper coaches a national team after his experience with the Georgia national team (between 2008 and 2009), the last of which was with Egypt (2015-2018), and between them Uzbekistan (2018-2019), and he continues to do so, after he gained a long CV.

Cuper has a long experience at the club level as well, as he coached Valencia in his brightest period in 1999, and lost the Champions League final twice in a row in 2000 and 2001 before moving to Inter Milan, who was one step away from the Italian League title in 2003.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since the 2012 edition in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, where they missed the first and second places in their qualifying group by just one point under the leadership of former coach Christian Nsengi Bembe.

Hector Cuper managed to qualify with the national team for the 2018 World Cup, which was held in Russia after an absence of 28 years, and qualified for the 2017 African Cup of Nations final before losing to Cameroon in the final 2-1.
